Hey guys!

Managed to get another Chaos Spawn done and a Dragon Warrior Chaos Space Marine painted up for the mercenary warband idea that I kicked off here.

The Spawn didn't take much time, but the Dragon Warrior took AAAAAAAAAAAAAGES because of all the grey highlights I had to do for his armours black trim. When I first started painting him, the dull black just looked horrible by itself. The highlights really make the model stand out.

Anyhoo, starting with the Spawn:

I wanted to make his arms look like neither of them really belonged to him. A metallic arm and an odd blue-green tinge on the other sorted that out pretty quickly.

Lots of blood, because why not!

The weird stains on this guy are due to my experiments with Gryphonne Sepia. No matter how I use that wash I never like the look of it...

Yeah, I experimented with this guy a bit wash-wise and colour scheme-wise.

Dragon Warriors are known to have a preference for Melta/Flamer weapons and "close quarters fire-fights", which I think I've portrayed in this model quite well.

I tried to keep to the image found on Lexicanum as much as possible, seen here. I really didn't want to do the scales all over his armour, as the grey highlights had already taken up a lot more time than I originally thought they would.

Lots of blood on the sword, tying in with the "Close quarter fire-fights" that these dudes specialise in.

I'm gonna be honest here, I just gave the backpack a heavy drybrush.

Scales on the shoulder pad, fitting in with their fluff.

Quite happy with this guy!

So that's what I've been getting up to recently!

I also have plans for 2015, in the form of a few units/models that I want to get finished for the year. These include:

  • My three remaining Noise Marines.
  • The models I got for Christmas.
  • All of my vehicles.
  • The remaining "Chaos Mercenary Squad".
  • The rest of my Fallen Angels army.
  • Highlighting/basing the 29-odd Night Lords that haven't been based/highlighted yet.
  • The remaining nine Night Lords Chosen.

Happy new year folks!

Hey guys!

It's been a while since I updated, but I've been keeping busy, as you can see. I've been converting, painting and finishing off models, not all of which can be seen below. The Space Marine models were converted from the Space Marine Veterans pack. I'll be going through each of these models in turn, then talk about what else is on my plate at the moment.

I also have plenty of before and after images to give you an idea of what was changed from the original models.

So without further ado, let's get into it!

Pictured above, a Silent Hill-esque monster that I created around Halloween. The legs are from a Vampire Counts Crypt Ghoul and the face is from a Squig that I got with the Ork Gretchin box set. I just used a load of green stuff to fill in the gaps, and he turned out pretty well.

It turns out that there are actually plenty of example of Silent Hill-inspired models made out of Warhammer/modelling putty, as seen in this Google Search. I was particularly inspired by these Silent Hill Numb Bodies on Deviant Art too.

This is one of the Space Marine Veterans that I converted. The original model had a Laurel Wreath on his helmet, which didn't come across as very Night Lord-y. Had to do a good bit of conversion work on him to make him seem less loyal! I also converted his backpack using a retro Berzerker backpack, with the vents replaced with skulls I had left over from the Crypt Ghouls kit.

The Navy Blue Army Painter spray I used on him also went a bit chunky, so I had to scrape some of the basecoat off and apply some Regal Blue over the affected areas for these images.

The above model used to simply have a Chainsword and Bolt Pistol. I took the Power Fist from the Night Lords hero, the hand from the Catachan box set, and the bone from the Crypt Ghouls set.

Not a huge amount of conversion with this guy, I simply took the Combi-Flamer from the Night Lords hero and replaced his backpack. The shoulder pad provides a quick and easy way to identify him as a Night Lord, which was exactly what I was looking for.

Badass sergeant dude, now has a chaos power sword instead of a power fist! He looks way cooler with the sword, I think. I defaced the Imperial Eagle on his chest plate, replaced Imperial Iconography with a little metal disk-thing (Not sure what story will be behind that one!) and added chains for coolness.

My favourite model out of the converted models, my Retiarius! I was watching "Spartacus: Blood And Sand" when building this guy. There's a gladiator called "Gnaeus" in it that uses a Net and Trident to kill his enemies, which I thought would look really cool on this model.

The Bolt Pistol arm is just a Berzerker Bolt Pistol arm, the net is from the Dark Eldar Wych set and the Trident is a combination of a Chaos Knight lance and a Chaos Marauder Horseman spear tip.

When I get around to painting him, I'll paint the tip of his trident like a light-blue crystal, indicating that it is a power trident (Counts-as lance/spear).

The Night Lords Hero! I only changed this models arms really, but the positioning is what really sets him apart from other models. The axe is from the Chaos Warriors set and, in true Night Lords fashion, the power sword was plundered from the Assault on Black Reach captain!

This Fallen Biker took ages to complete, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. This was my first attempt at weathering with a drybrush to create a mix of a rusty/dusty look. In any case, I think I really nailed down what I want my Fallen bikers to look like.

He also has a sword and shield, because it looks awesome. The shield is from the Vampire Counts Grave Guard set, the sword is from the Berzerker set and the spikes on the front of the bike are from the basic Chaos Space Marine set.

A Fallout Super Mutant! A simple enough kitbash that consists of an Ork Boy torso and arms, Crypt Ghoul head and Catachan legs. Nothing fancy, and he fits the bill quite nicely.

Yep, I finally got around to painting one of those Night Lords that I spend ages creating! I picked this guy to paint first because he seemed to be a pretty straight-forward paint job.

The base is from whichever GW basing kit comes with rocks (I can't remember!), the demon face on his guy is from an Ork Boyz kit (Dead squig skull), and I think the chains are from the basic Chaos Space Marine set. The Roman Tabard was taken from the previous edition of the Space Marine kit, although I don't know if they still include it in the newest one.

The "Numb Body" was painted with Bubonic Brown and the old brown "Flesh Wash". I think I'll use it as a Combat Familiar for my Chaos army.

Finally, we have Krannon the Relentless! This guy took AGES to finish painting, but I am delighted with the results! The second I saw his model, I knew I had to cover his sword in blood... Looks so awesome!

No conversion work was done on this guy, the only related detail worth noting is that I used Blackfire Earth on his base and washed it with Agrax Earthshade.

I'll include the paints used for this model, as I only finished him last night:
  1. The red was painted with Scab Red, Blood Red, then highlighted with Flat Red from Model Color.
  2.  The sword was based with Regal blue, then dry-brushed HEAVILY with Ice Blue, before being lightly dry-brushed with Ceramite White.
  3. His cloak was based in Regal Blue, then heavily dry-brushed with Ultramarine Blue. Folds in his cloak were drybrushed with Ice Blue. The gold detail on his cloak was painted with Shining Gold.
  4. The gold detail on his armour was base with shining gold, then burnished gold.
  5. Finally, the entire model was washed with Agrax Earthshade.

And that's that!

Aside from all of those models, I have also based all of my zombies with Astrogranite and used Blood For The Blood God on any of their gore-y parts. I also used Stirland Mud on my Ork Warbosses base and he looks much cooler now. I figured it wasn't worth adding even more images to this post though, since it's already full of them, as you can see!

As for right now, I'm in the middle of painting up a Scibor Demon Lord and a Warhammer Giant. I've always really liked the Warhammer Giant and really wanted to paint him. The Scibor Lord, I've had for ages at this point. Since last Christmas in fact, so I want to finish him!

Anyway, I'll finish up this post with a funny model I put together a while back, enjoy:
Those shoulder pads, with THOSE greaves?
 Until next time!
