2022: The Painting Update

Hi folks, this is a bit of a lockdowns-up-until-now update. I've painted a decent chunk of miniatures and other things like terrain, although not everything is 100% complete. If its close enough to completion I've added it here (Usually this just means thag the basing and shading wasn't done, but thats largely just for the zombies and there's like a billion of them in this update!). I won't include a tonne of the conversions that aren't painted either (Mainly zombie pirates, are you sensing a theme yet?)

I also Truescaled 50 Night Lords infantry and managed to basecoat 25 of them for my first 40K crusade game, but not shade anything or decide on which parts need to be "covered up" with pouches, pistols, accessories, etc. These cover ups might be needed on some of them because I didn't do an amazing job with the green stuff in places and I don't like not going 100% all out on models anymore (mold lines irk me a lot now!). I'll only mention these models now without pics, as truescaling took up a tonne of time and effort.

An idea of what the zombie pirates will  look like when finished, before we get on to the actual update below...

Space wolf Eliminator and Infiltrator

A Treeman thing from Ral Partha (Strong  middlehammer vibes from this crowd!)

The Malifaux "Children of December" gang. My group picked up Malifaux over lockdown and it's great craic! No dice are involved, just two decks of traditional playing cards to represent "chance" and a tonne of interesting abilities and themes. The lady on the left can fill the battlefield with gigantic ice columns that block off movement and line of sight, and can also throw them at people. The really big guy can throw people, full stop.

A Night Lords Dark Apostle conversion made from the finecast Krell model. This model was actually painted and converted before lockdown, so I must check to see if I've posted him on here already. His part in my warband is that he's actually an Alpha Legionnaire who killed another leader type in my army and is slowly chaosifying the rest of the warband, as a kind of fluff reason to justify having corrupted units in my army.

Another model painting before lockdown, this Predator has an unfortunate, but now fully painted, member of the Dark Angels on its Hull.

A couple of Resident Evil 2 boardgame zombies that I spent a few hours painting just before the lockdown started. I tried to paint the woman one up as a "misty", which the Resident Evil community named one of the in game zombies after because she wears similar clothes to Misty from the Pokemon cartoon. I'm not happy with how the male zombies face turned out, but he's a zombie so who cares...

A 10 man Necron killteam (with 5 fully converted flayed ones that took up the majority of time spent on these!)

I've only painted the Bloodletters so far for this Daemons killteam, but I wanted to include everything. They're technically a repaint and rebase, but it took so long to finish (ever tried removing mold lines from a painted model before?!) that I'm including them.

The unlimited amount of zombies I painted. As of the last counting there should be 60 here that are fully basecoated at least, with probably 20 or so based and washed (So finished). I bought these (and many more, I think I have a little more than twice this amount in total) after lockdown started and just went at it constantly for a good age and a half. Removing the mold lines on these really sucks because of the weird fingers and repetition, so I might paint up 40 more as regular zombies, then convert the rest as close combat and gunner zombie pirates. This way they'll be a bit more interesting to paint and can be used in a zombie pirate or vampire count army, since they'll be infantry fodder either way.

Lahmian vampire (She is very cool and those models are some of the best middlehammer models that were made in my  opinion!)

A Father Ted diorama I made for my fathers 60th

Ambush Alley, my killteam board. This is based on the Metal Gear Online videogame map of the same name. Its quite grey, so I added a fifth tile to give us the option of having some actual colour on the field that isn't grey/black.

And the fifth tile.

So I think that's pretty much it for now. I'll detail all the crap I bought and wanna sell over the lockdowns in another post as there's no way I'll finish it all in one lifetime when new stuff keeps coming out, and I already have a bajillion other ideas to work on. Of course I'll keep the stuff thats close to my heart (my original chaos marine stuff, 6th edition Dark Elf and 6th edition Vampire Counts) but for now, be grand.

Cheers for reading,

Marc

  2. Cheers Jason, and I can see you have been too! I love the amount of older models on your blogs, and I can see why a lot of older folks (Which I now class myself amongst, since I'm both bald and big-bearded now) love the older citadel stuff. Do you get your stuff from Ebay or recasters? Seems like casting is on the rise which is ideal for miniatures that were originally only available in lead.
